Quantifying coating effectiveness for fuel savings
The instrument measures the average hull roughness (AHR) value of sea going vessels. AHR is defined as the mean of all the vessel’s hull roughness readings and provides a measurement against which the ship’s performance can be correlated.
According to TQC, a high structural roughness leads to a fuel penalty and increased CO2 emissions. The use of modern anti-fouling paints can reduce the structural hull roughness. The Hull Roughness Analyzer provides data that shows the before and after situation when using these coatings, and with these data the expected fuel saving can be calculated. Data arestored by the unit to provide graphical representations or reports in Microsoft Excel format.
