Another cruise contract for Meyer
The new vessel will be a sister to the ship ordered by Star Cruises in October 2013, and will increase the size of the Star fleet to eight ships. The order is still conditional on financing. Delivery is scheduled for autumn 2017.
The 150,000gt cruise ship will be around 330m long, and have capacity for 3,300-plus passengers in 1,680 cabins, many being high-class suites tailored to the demands of the Asian cruise market, with a crew complement of about 2,030. Public areas will include several restaurants, entertainment venues and casinos. The ship will be dsigned for a service speed of 24 knots in order to provide flexibility to serve exciting Asian itineraries.
Meyer’s order book now includes seven cruise ships up to the end of 2017, and the yard’s management is quoted as saying that they are very pleased that this latest order will safeguard the jobs of about 3,100 direct employees and about 20,000 jobs in contractors and supplying companies up to 2017.
