Two more PSVs to be built at Ulstein
The new ships are intended for North Sea contracts, a business sector in which ships of this size are regarded as ‘medium sized. But because Ulstein says the capacity and fuel efficiency have been optimised for this market, they are able to take on tasks which normally require the use of larger PSVs thanks to the PX121’s optimised deadweight and performance. This in turn results in reduced operating costs, says the designer.
The customer, Blue Ship Invest, is a member of the Norwegian Ulstein Group, and the intention is for it to sell on the two new vessels, a strategy that has proved successful with previous ships of this type.
Ulstin Verft has now sold a total of 20 PX121 ships, 10 of which have been, or are being, built by Ulstein itself. The first six were delivered during 2012/2013, and all are currently working in the North Sea, and have received good feedback from the operators. The yard currently has seven vessels on order.
“The PX121 has become a success, and many such ships have now been constructed at our own and at external yards. It is gratifying to see that we succeed in our efforts to bring new products into the market,” said Ulstein Werft CEO Gunvor Ulstein.
