The company says that the new LOPs feature Improved I/O, and are designed for monitoring and control of engines, pumps and compressors. They employ proprietary technology to manage functions such as engine safety/shut-down and condition monitoring, and are said to provide single integrated control system, particularly suited to electronic engines which will be required to comply with MARPOL Annex VI Tier III emission regulations.

CMR’s LOPs incorporate SIMS (smart innovative monitoring system), intended to be simply installed, configured and operated. The systems process and display user defined engine parameters, trigger local alarm outputs, update alarms lists and store events in the log book.

The company claims that two particular applications can benefit from the systems. Firstly, vessels featuring a single propulsion engine where rules require a redundant controller. The CMR LOP is able to manage two CAN networks, continuously manage the parameters of both electronic control modules (ECM), monitor the communications and display the main controller parameters. Secondly, the system can simultaneously managing several communication protocols – CANopen / SAEJ1939 / Modbus TCP/IP / Ethernet are all embedded within the operating system, allowing the LOP to manage communication with engine parameters (temperature, pressure and speed) through I/O modules, ECM and sometime the propulsion system by reading and writing messages both ways.
