It’s the largest order in UASC’s history, 17 vessels worth over US$2bn that will be among the largest, most technologically advanced, and most environmentally friendly container vessels ever built, and all will be ‘LNG ready’.

Mr YJ Ji, HHI, said: “The completion of this significant newbuilding order between UASC and HHI is an important step in our four decade long relationship. HHI is proud to be supporting UASC in the construction of these advanced vessel designs.”

This last order brings the head count to six 18,000 teu vessels and eleven 14,000 teu vessels – all are scheduled for delivery from late 2014 and from the first half of 2015.

UASC hosted a signing ceremony in Dubai where the newbuild contract was signed by His Excellency Salem Ali Al Zaabi, Chairman of the UASC Board of Directors and Mr YJ Ji of HHI.

The vessels will enable UASC to improve its competitiveness in the key trade lane between Asia and Europe where the 18,000 teu vessels will be deployed.
