More hybrid power systems for Scandlines ferries
The company supplied the system used on Sc
and
lines’
Prinsesse Benedikte
ferry
,
and
the next three hybrid conversions –
Deutschl
and
,
Schleswig-Holstein
and
Prins Richard will use a similar 2.7MWh system based on Corvus AT6500 lithium polymer batteries
and
Siemens drive systems.
The systems are said to offer significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions
,
improved maintenance costs
and
optimised engine performance
,
resulting in lower operating expenses.
All four ships will operate on the Puttgarden – Rødby route linking Denmark
and
Germany
,
and
will be the largest fleet of hybrid vessels currently in operation. Recently the system on Prinsesse Benedikte was put to the test in the presence of officials from the Danish Government
,
Lloyd’s Register
,
Sc
and
lines
and
Corvus. The diesel generators were intentionally taken offline
,
and
the battery system
,
sensing the loss of generator power
,
seamlessly provided full power for all the ship’s systems.
Corvus claims that its lithium polymer system will last for more than 10 years
,
“optimising ROI by multiples given the long life of ferry vessels.”
