Emirates and Sweden join forces

EIMA says the agreement supports its vision of becoming the Gulf’s Centre of Excellence for maritime education. Both organisations say they hope to develop future global maritime leaders, exporters and professionals through maritime education, training and research.

Practical exposure will be offered through EIMA’s association with Drydocks World and Maritime World which can cater to all types of technical training at its training centre.

The current infrastructure at EIMA can accommodate up to 20,000 students a year and the plan is to develop a maritime centre of excellence including the establishment of a research institute with the largest Towing Tank facility in the world.

Ali bin Towaih Alsuwaidi, vice president, business development, commercial and project management, Drydocks World & Maritime World, said: “This MoU will add value to EIMA’s reputation as a key player in education since the University is directly linked to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), which is the ultimate maritime related decision-making body. In addition, it will also give EIMA international status & credibility in being able to offer Post Graduate level courses by 2015.”

“WMU is pleased to enter into the agreement with EIMA to support the regional and international maritime educational goals of the Academy. EIMA is an emerging maritime educational and training provider in the Middle East and the opportunities for collaboration between the Academy and WMU will certainly be of mutual benefit” added Björn Kjerfve, president, WMU.

EIMA says this centre will enable industry players in the shipping, maritime, oil, gas, energy and offshore industry to fully meet their skill requirements and attract a global student base in the UAE by 2020.
