Using Speedy Breedy, ship’s crew can test ballast water onboard for contamination in accordance with the D-2 performance standard

The agreement will see Goltens, which is an independent ballast water treatment service provider, distribute Bactest’s portable fast contamination testing product, known as ‘Speedy Breedy’.

Using Speedy Breedy, ship’s crew can test ballast water onboard for contamination in accordance with the IMO D-2 performance standard for the discharge of ballast water.

Bactest’s product tests the treated ballast water for the presence of three bacteria set out in the D-2 standards – Vibrio cholerae, E. coli and enterococcus, after which the sample is pasteurised so that it can be safely disposed of as regular waste.

“We have been looking for a product like Speedy Breedy for some time to complement our ballast water treatment business. With more than 22 stations in the Goltens network worldwide, this agreement has a global reach,” said Maarten Jeronimus, vice president, Goltens Europe.

Annie Brooking, CEO, Bactest, added: “They [Goltens] have an impressive track record of retrofitting ballast water treatment systems and indeed lead the market in this field. Bactest will benefit hugely from their global sales infrastructure and marketing strength.”
