ASRY continues to attract new clients

Apart from routine dry-docking jobs and hull treatment the main job on the VLCC was the installation of an owner-supplied Becker Mewis Duct. ASRY reports that this is the 12th such duct it has installed, and the second on a VLCC. The yard says that its latest Mewis duct fit was completed in just 10 days.

Other recent ship repair completions included a job for a new Norwegian client, Westfal Larsen, whose chemical tanker Falkanger received routine dry-docking jobs, hull treatment, closing of the bow thruster tunnel and some mechanical jobs. ASRY had a situation which it believed to be unique, when three vessels from a single long-term customer were docked at the same time. Three trailing suction hopper dredgers from Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company were in the dock for four days to carry out hull cleaning, scrapping and propeller polishing jobs.

Agros and Tromso, from World Tanker Management of Singapore, docked at ASRY, where the jobs were completed in quick time. Agros stayed for 25 days, doing routine dry-docking jobs, tank steel renewals, heating coil renewals, piping works and mechanical jobs, followed by an 85-tonne renewal of bottom steel in 11 days on Tromso.

An extensive dry-docking and repair programme has been carried out on Singapore-owned AHTS Jaya Concordia, including fitting a tank sounding system as now required by Saudi Aramco. A first-time visitor to the yard was product tanker H.C Dalia operated by International Tanker Management of Germany, on which two ballast tanks were treated along with steelwork, mechanical and piping overhaul.

ASRY’s construction and engineering division has been engaged in, as well as the Jaya Concordia tank sounding system, design assessments for fitting large cranes on other vessels used by Saudi Aramco and 3-D scanning for pre-installation engineering of ballast water systems on several more vessels for KOTC. The KOTC scanning project is now complete, with nine ships now scanned and final engineering work in progress.

ASRY’s Offshore division reports that the first half of 2014 has proved solid, with a positive outlook for the rest of the year. Several rigs and jack-up vessels have docked so far, and more are expected.
