Ulstein platform supply order

The vessels will be constructed for Otto Offshore Ltd and are due for delivery in 2016. The deal also includes an option for four additional vessels. Both Wuchang Shipbuilding and Otto Offshore are new customers for Ulstein.

Sigurd Viseth, managing director, Ulstein Design & Solutions, said: “The PX121 vessels boast a performance you would normally expect from a larger PSV. Being able to do this at a medium-sized PSV cost, with reduced emissions and fuel consumption, the ship owner gets a favourable combination of two market areas.”

The PX121 vessels will be capable of supporting offshore activities which are being carried out further from shore and in deeper waters.

Measuring 83.4m in length and a beam of 18m, they will have a cargo deck of 840²m and a load capacity of 4,000 dwt.

They will all be built on the X-BOW hull line design, which is efficient on all draughts, a factor critical for PSVs, as they frequently operate with varying draughts.

The X-BOW helps to eliminate slamming during high seas by reducing bow impact, noise and vibration. This leads to better performance and increased operability, increased crew comfort and safety and reduced fuel consumption.

The contract with Ulstein also includes the delivery of engineering components and main equipment for the vessels – this will include integrated control systems, bridge (radio, navigation), switchboard, diesel electric propulsion and frequency converters and communication systems.
