AMS acceptance for Trojan ballast system

Receiving the temporary approval gives shipowners operating vessels in US waters more choice of BWT systems to manage their ballast water discharges in lieu of ballast water exchange.

While AMS is an important certification, the Canadian company says its main objective is to obtain USCG Type Approval. “We remain committed to being one of the first BWT system suppliers to achieve US Coast Guard Type Approval, and continue to take the necessary steps to achieve this goal,” said Marv DeVries, president.

The system is purpose-built for the marine environment and provides filtration +UV in a single compact unit. TrojanUV Solo Lamp technology is used to ensure the lowest installed power draw of other systems in the market. The company says this means larger vessels, like bulkers and tankers, can effectively choose a UV-based solution.

Trojan’s Marinex BWT product suite is tested and IMO Type Approved to the lowest UV transmittance value in the industry (corresponding to poor water quality) under full flow condition. Testing was carried out under the supervision of DNV, in accordance United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) Ballast Water Protocol – a key testing requirement for systems to obtain USCG Type Approval.
