Rolls-Royce cranes for Brazilian PSVs

The scope of the contract, which was signed with Detroit Chile SA, includes nine ship sets of the award-winning dual draglink crane, making 18 cranes in total.

“A ship configuration with two cranes provides safe and highly efficient load handling and these offshore vessels will have the advantage of loading and unloading the deck using their own equipment,” said John Knudsen, president, commercial marine, Rolls-Royce.

Rolls-Royce’s dual draglink crane, launched in 2012, is designed for safer and more efficient load handling in harbour and on the vessel’s deck while at sea. The cranes are said to allow fast loading, unloading and moving of cargo over the entire length of the main deck.

The dual draglink crane is already in use onboard Farstad Shipping’s vessel, Far Solitaire, one PSV under construction at Keppel Singmarine Brazil SA and a further four PSVs under construction at Detroit Brasil shipyard.

Once built, the vessels designed by Guido Perla, will enter into service on an eight-year contract with state-owned Brazilian oil company Petrobras. Brazilian Starnav Serviços Marìtimos Ltda, a subsidiary of Detroit Chile, will be operating the vessels.
