Deck crane with synchronised control

The cranes have been installed on a long-cargo transport ship constructed by Shin Kurushima Dockyard. The control system of the three cranes enables safe and efficient loading and unloading of long cargo. It allows simultaneous and uniform control of the three cranes by a single operator, for hoisting and jib elevation tasks. Operations can be controlled remotely on deck as well as from the operator’s cabin, while another function enables switching of the hook control reference position to either the hull or wharf. This enables smooth cargo handling irrespective of the hull’s inclination.

The cranes are equipped with load alarms and an automatic stop function. A deviation-overrun mode halts operation when the deviation of the hook position or the jib angle between the three cranes exceeds its tolerance.

They have been installed at about 50m intervals along the 155m hold of a ship having an overall length near 190m. This enables loading and unloading of 150m-long cargo, without dividing it into parts.
