Exhaust gas cleaning for two MR tankers

The company says that its EGCS will enable the new medium-range tankers, owned and operated by a British oil major, to comply with upcoming sulphur emissions limits without switching to more expensive fuels. The two 40,000dwt tankers are part of a series of five newbuilds. Installation of the EGCS is scheduled to take place during 2016.

Clean Marine says the systems supplied to Hyundai Mipo will be designed to clean 100,000kg/h of exhaust and will remove both SOx and particulate matter from the emissions from one main engine, two auxiliary engines, and one boiler. The system is a hybrid type which is claimed to operate seamlessly in both open loop and in closed loop (zero discharge mode). The integrated fan and gas recirculation technology is said to allow one EGCS unit to simultaneously serve all combustion units, including boilers.
