Improved fuel consumption measurement launched by CMR
CMR’s FMS (fuel monitoring system) features a new hardware configuration which is said to accurately calculate actual diesel consumption levels using a combination of fuel pressure and temperature sensors located on the engine.
The associated SIMS (smart innovative monitoring system) uses pre-programmed factors, including variation in diesel oil density, to compensate usage curves. CMR says that its approach to calculating fuel consumption as a function of fuel pressure and temperature enables engine manufacturers to avoid the use of expensive fuel consumption measurement systems based on fuel mass flow meters.
The CMR SIMS unit can be connected to a ship’s automatic supervision system through a secure Ethernet or TCP/IP communication link, which in turn connects to CMR’s smart connecting modules which are contained in small cabinets mounted near or onto the engine, and which perform the data acquisition function. The connecting modules feature four channel analogue input cards connected to the engine’s fuel pressure and temperature sensors. Additional sensors can then be added, if required, via a spare module. Up to six inputs from switches or up to four inputs for analogue channels are available.
