The programme will include early operational feedback on new ECA regulations

The Motorship’s 37th Propulsion & Emissions Conference, to be held on 4-5 March in Hamburg, is again taking shape as a vital forum for the marine engineering industry. High on this year’s agenda is a discussion between ship owners, operators and a port state authority on the operational impact of the recently introduced stricter ECA regulations on sulphur emissions.

The conference will also take an in-depth comparative look fuel types currently available and provide an overview of which fuels ship operators are using. Cylinder lubrication, fuel-switching procedures and engines for future fuels will also be discussed in detail, along with a focus on improving efficiency through fuel and operational monitoring.

Further sessions will compare the benefits of fuel switching, scrubbers or LNG, and the final afternoon will feature networking roundtable discussions to facilitate dialogue between ship operators and other industry stakeholders.

Other highlights include:

  • Keynote addresses: Arsenio Dominguez, Chairman MEPC and Nikolaus Von Peter, Cabinet Member, Transport Cabinet, European Commission
  • Which fuels are operators opting for and what is the quality like? Mohammed Usman, Senior Specialist, FOBAS, Lloyds Register EMEA
  • Fuel oil modification and change over procedures during fuel switching: Joachim Milius, Senior Approval Engineer System Technology, DNVGL
