Korean Register authorised in Canada

The classification society said its new authority would be particularly beneficial to KR classed vessels operating in Arctic waters thanks to the Canadian administration’s heavy involvement in IMO Polar Code discussions.

KR opened an office in Vancouver in 2012 and passed an audit by the Canadian government at its Busan headquarters and the Vancouver office last year. These audits led to KR becoming a Recognized Organisation (RO) for Canada.

Dr BS Park, chairman and chief executive officer, KR said: “[Authorisation by Canada] is a further endorsement of our growing stature in the international maritime community and recognises our continued efforts in advancing technology and classification services. We look forward to delivering high quality and efficient services to Canada’s maritime sector”

KR is now authorised to carry out ship survey and certification work in 69 countries.
