The test was part of a comprehensive fuel efficiency initiative across MSC’s fleet launched in 2011. Following hull performance evaluations, Jotun’s SeaQuantum X200 was applied to the 8,772 teu containership MSC Adelaide, delivered from the Sungdong Yard in Korea in 2013.

Initial results on the MSC Adelaide have been very encouraging, the shipowner said. MSC will use Jotun’s hull performance solutions on 12 vessels including the world’s largest containership, the 19,224 teu MSC Oscar, built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and delivered in January.
