Drydocks World said that the research programme is one of the many initiatives started by the company to give its employees a high standard of occupational safety.
Both parties signed the joint research agreement for the WELSHIP programme back in 2013.
The programme objective was to undertake a programme of high quality research on the acute and chronic cardio-respiratory health outcomes in steel welders at the facility.
But the next phase of research will examine the risks of respiratory infections in steel welders.
