Visedo acquires Electric Power Conversion
The two companies are already familiar to each other, having cooperated on projects including the DC grid power system for Västtrafik passenger ferries in Gothenburg, Wider Superyachts in Italy and on the Damen Ecoliner inland vessel project in the Netherlands.
The deal brings EPC’s system development centre, its team of engineers and a sales pipeline. Visedo noted that EPC’s competencies in diesel electric DC grids and hybrid and full electric drive trains for vessels would enhance its own marine engineering capabilities.
The EPC name will be replaced by Visedo, and Pieter Dijkstra, founder and managing director of EPC, is appointed managing director of the combined company. (Read The Motorship’s recent profile of Dijkstra.)
Kimmo Rauma, CEO of Visedo, commented: “EPC has know-how that complements very well Visedo’s current business and brings a strong presence especially to the European marine market. This is an important step for our company in becoming the leading solution provider in short sea shipping sector.”
Dijkstra added: “The Visedo technology is a game changer in the marine industry, which makes new solutions and configurations possible for ship designers and shipyards. Thanks to the extremely compact and very robust design with high efficiency motors and inverters, Visedo technology has been the force behind EPC´s growing success in the marine industry. Joining the two companies together is a crucial step in getting to the next level of growth for the joint company and providing best support for our customers”
The companies predicted that the coming years will bring a huge increase in demand for hybrid and fully electric internal waterway and short sea shipping applications, due to their capability of cutting emissions and operation costs. “Ship owners and builders will require these solutions to be provided by companies with systematic working practices, a comprehensive offering and the vision and commitment to serve the market with consistency,” it concluded.
