DNV GL and Russian Register cooperate

Currently around 20 ships are in dual RS-DNV GL class and the two companies aim to identify areas of further cooperation that will enable them to complement each other’s strengths.

Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen, DNV GL’s CEO, said: “We look forward to strengthening our cooperation with RS, which will benefit the Russian maritime industry and our long-term partnerships with Russian clients.”

The new framework sets out the general procedure for delegating authority in cases where one society performs surveys of ships classed by the other. It will also lay down general terms and conditions for cooperation in the area of dual classification of both newly built ships and those already in service.

Priority areas include ensuring compliance of ships with the requirements of the Polar Code, providing expert assistance to stakeholders, and interpreting the Code by building on RS and DNV GL experience. Also discussed was cooperation aimed at improving technical standards for the safety of gas-fuelled ships.
