Two new contracts for NES

Electrical specialist, Norwegian Electric Systems (NES), has been awarded two new contracts with sea safety specialist Esvagt and fish transporter company Norsk Fisketransport (NFT).

NES is to deliver the diesel electric system for Esvagt’s latest windfarm service vessel, the 6^th vessel owned by Esvagt for which NES has delivered systems.

The new vessel, HD831 SOV, will be built at Cemre Shipyard in Turkey in collaboration with Havyard Design & Solutions and NES’s scope will encompass:

• 2 x Norwegian Electric Main prop. Motors 1000kW, 0-1200RPM, PM90V
• 2 x Norwegian Electric motor for tunnel thrusters 500kW, 0-1200RPM, 690V
• 2 x Norwegian Electric Quadro Drive for main propeller 1000kW, 690V
• 2 x Norwegian Electric Quadro Drive for tunnel thrusters 500kW, 690V
• 2 x Norwegian Electric Systems Main Switchboards 690V/440V/230V, EMSB 690V/230V
• 10 x Norwegian Electric Transformers from 200kVA to 80 kVA, 690/440/230V
• 1 x Norwegian Electric BOSS (Black Out Safety System)
• 1 x Norwegian Electric RAS (Remote Assistance System

Commenting on the win, Tor Leif Mongstad, president and chief executive of NES, said: “Norwegian Electric Systems looks on this as a great vote of confidence to be assigned this contract and we will do our utmost to make both yard and owner satisfied.”

NES has also signed a contract for an electrical system for NFT’s new live fish carrier, hull no. 127, an HD587 design which will be built at Havyard Ship Technology in Leirvik, Norway.

NES is contracted to supply:

• 1 x Norwegian Electric Shaft Generator 1200RPM/2500kVA/2000kW/440V
• 2 x Norwegian Electric Aux Generators 1800RPM/1175kVA/940kW/440V
• 1 x Norwegian Electric Motor for Bow Thruster 1196RPM/800kW/440V
• 1 x Norwegian Electric Motor for Stern Thruster 1800RPM/600kW/440V
• 1 x Norwegian Electric Main Switchboard 230V and 440V
• 1 x Norwegian Electric Emergency Switchboard 440/230V

NES will also supply both companies with project management, electrical studies and analysis together with commissioning and sea trials.

Speaking of future plans, Mr Mongstad said: “NES has changed the focus from OSV to other segments such as fishing vessels, ferries, fish breeding, passenger/ cruise vessels, Ro-Pax and merchant vessels and we will during 2016 and the future years meet heavy competition from our competitors.”

“During 2015 NES made some changes and restructuring of the organization which will make us competitive in a tight market. Norwegian Electric Systems has built up a high capacity within energy storage/ battery hybrid and the company has already a test station for hybrid electric systems ready at Janaflaten 10 in Godvik, Bergen. Knowledge is very important on this future-oriented area,” he concluded.
