Schottel launches high-performance nozzle
The VarioDuct SDV45 aims to give the high propulsive power with greater bollard pull than previous Schottel nozzles.
Offering greater efficiency in the medium and high speed range, the system aims to contribute to fuel savings.
The new nozzle can be optimally adapted to different vessel design and application; its smaller outer diameter makes the nozzle suitable to shallow-water operations.
Schottel has also applied new computer-based CFD (computation fluid dynamics) methods for flow simulation.
The CFD calculations are used to investigate hundreds of geometry variants and determine the optimum design. It is used for the in-house development of custom-tailored and optimally coordinated propulsion systems for virtually all vessel types and applications.
This aims to focus on power, durability, compactness and fuel savings to meet customer project requirements.
