Thorque+ is among the first permanent magnet propulsion motors to be approved by DNV GL

The system, developed by Scana Propulsion and Inpower, is the first to receive redundancy type R3 approval from DNV GL – for single-screw applications where a maximum restoration time of three hours is needed and repair is allowed.

The series features a compact PM motor with integrated thrust and pitch mechanism for controllable pitch propellers. The concept is said to offer reduced maintenance and footprint as part of a diesel-electric propulsion system.

Scana Propulsion will deliver a 750kW Thorque+ system for a fixed-pitch propeller longliner under construction for Icelandic owner Stormur Seafood at Alkor shipyard in Poland. The unit will be delivered in the fourth quarter of the year.
