International Windship Association Awards

The Innovation Award was won by E-Ship 1 in a close fought battle with UT Windchallenger and Norsepower. The E-ship 1 has supplementary wind-operated drives which have a direct impact on reducing fuel consumption.

Enercon’s long term commitment to supporting development and operation of the flettner rotors on the E-Ship 1 was reflected by its win of the Wind Propulsion Technology End-User Award.

The Research Award was won by the University of South Pacific’s Sustainable Sea Transport Research Programme in recognition of the work it has done highlighting the opportunities for windships as a means of creating greater resilience in small island communities.

IWSA members selected the initiator of the dynarig system Wilhelm Proells, the visionary German shipping engineer who devised the automated square-rig system in the 1960s, as the winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award.
