Maersk Drilling targets big data maintenance savings

The ship owner has deployed SeaStream Insight, GE’s marine asset performance management, powered by its Predix industrial internet platform. The pilot project, which will be carried out on an XLE rig over 12 months, has reached its first milestone. Data collected from the rig is currently being processed and analysed online.

Operational sensor data from critical equipment is connected to a historian – a server that stores the data needed to model the blueprint of the drilling operation. The software can then compare assets to benchmark vessel performance against the ideal state. The output is translated into clear dashboards offering a holistic view of a vessel, which can help operators to make more informed decisions.

Advanced algorithms and strong data-processing capabilities will enable SeaStream Insight to predict the health of critical assets, spotting inefficiencies or detecting potential failure up to weeks in advance.
