The ASD (Azimuth Stern Drive) harbour tug, for Chinese-owned Lianyungang HB, will have 90t of bollard pull and is expected to be the largest azimuth thruster-driven tugboat in Lianyungang HB’s fleet.

Hans Laheij, Schottel’s vice president of sales & marketing, said: “Harbour tugs today need significantly more power and a high bollard pull for the effective manoeuvring of the giant containerships that dominate the major shipping routes nowadays.”

Currently being built by Lianyungang Hongyun Co. Ltd., the vessel will operate at the Port of Lianyungang in China.

Lianyungang HB commented: “We have worked with SCHOTTEL on several other projects before and are very satisfied with the reliability of the propulsion systems and the excellent technical support, which is why we will also be equipping our new project with a SRP.”

With a cargo throughput of 210m tonnes per year in 2015, Lianyungang is among China’s largest ports linking eastern sea routes with western land routes.

Schottel has been working with the Port of Lianyungang since 2010.
