32-genset order from Swire for MAN
MAN says it regards this contract as a very important order, considering the current, stressed market situation, and states that it underlines the foothold the company has gained in the offshore segment.
Swire has ordered eight IMT-997 platform supply vessels (PSVs), with four to be built by Universal Shipbuilding Corporation in Japan and a further four to be built by EISA Shipyard in Brazil. Each vessel will be equipped with four 6L27/38 MAN gensets, each rated at 1,980kW at 720rpm. All generating sets will be constructed by Korean licensee Doosan Engine. The 97m, 5,000dwt PSVs will have DP2 capability and have electrically-driven azimuthing propulsion units. The vessels will be delivered progressively from early 2014 on, with genset delivery accordingly timed to stretch from early 2013 through mid-2014.
