This trial aims to unlock new opportunities for enhancing operational performance by closely monitoring and optimising key systems, including the engine, hull, propeller, and auxiliary systems.

Additionally, the trial will focus on the forecasting and monitoring of the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII), a critical metric for sustainable shipping. Tärntank will also have access to shore-based expertise to support these efforts as needed.

OVERSEA, a digital decision-support service, brings together ABB’s extensive ship technology expertise and the capabilities of the ABB Ability™ Genix Industrial Analytics and AI IoT platform, along with Wallenius Marine’s decades of experience in ship management and vessel performance optimisation. This collaboration aims to help ship owners, managers, and operators like Tärntank reduce fuel consumption, lower emissions, cut operational costs, and enhance overall vessel reliability and safety.

Tärntank’s trial of OVERSEA represents more than just a technological tool—it’s a comprehensive service package. The offering includes expert support from the OVERSEA Fleet Support Center, designed to guide operators through the entire performance improvement cycle. This approach is particularly well-suited for small to medium-sized organisations like Tärntank, allowing them to systematically elevate their operational efficiency.

“Initial trials will focus on OVERSEA’s capabilities in monitoring and improving the performance of the main engine, hull, propeller, auxiliaries, and CII across our six 15,000 dwt product/chemical tankers,” said Claes Möller, CEO of Tärntank Ship Management. “We are eager to see how our crews at sea and our office-based teams can work alongside OVERSEA’s experts to transform insights into actionable improvements and further enhance our vessels’ performance.”

Niklas Sundén, commercial manager at OVERSEA, added, “We’re excited about the potential value these trials can bring to Tärntank and their customers. Traditional solutions often provide performance data without context or actionable steps. With OVERSEA, both onboard crews and shore-side personnel will collaborate with our experts, ensuring that performance insights lead to tangible actions. Collaboration and transparency are at the heart of what we do, enabling us to turn data into decisions.”

The tanker sector, comprising approximately 10,000 vessels and representing a third of the global fleet, presents significant opportunities for the adoption of OVERSEA services. By subscribing to this support-as-a-service model, tanker owners and operators can leverage the combined power of digital solutions and expert guidance to drive operational excellence.
