ABB launches debut digital service for turbochargers
Based on existing SIKO calculations for exchange intervals, ABB Ability Digital SIKO, first available for two-stroke applications, incorporates data from individual turbocharger operations. Depending on turbocharger use, an individual turbocharger assessment leads to an updated recommended exchange interval.
The service could enable extended turbocharger operation and optimised maintenance costs, the company noted. Under Digital SIKO, extended parts are guaranteed between drydockings. The updated recommended exchange intervals also support operators’ compliance requirements, enabling further cost management potential across fleets.
Oliver Riemenschneider, managing director, ABB Turbocharging, said: “Our ambition is to enable customers to reach the next level in terms of efficiency, operational flexibility, reliability and, most crucially, cost optimisation over the lifecycle.”
The new solution continues the development of ABB’s digital offer. The company recently acquired engine performance software company Tekomar, enhancing its engine monitoring offer through ABB Ability. It has also opened the first handful of sites in a planned global network of ‘collaborative operations centres’ offering remote support to ABB equipment users.
