ABG launches PCV for the Indian coast guard

ABG Shipyard in Mumbai has launched a pollution control vessel (PCV) for the Indian Coast Guard. The shipbuilder has contracted to build three PCVs, the first of which, yard number 221 is named “Samudra Prahari”.

The 94 metre PCV, based on a Rolls-Royce design, has a displacement of 3,300 tons, a maximum draft of 4.5 metres and a service speed of 20.5 knots. A 10,640 kW diesel electric power plant comprises of two diesel gensets. The vessel has a capability to recover & store 300 tonnes of spilled oil from sea in addition to continuously recover and transfer oil through floating barges. The vessel in addition has all the facilities required to carry out other coast guard duties at sea. It can handle Chetak, ALH & Sea King Helicopters including stowage of Chetak helicopter. It has a state of art feature Integrated Platform Management System for centralized monitoring and control of machineries & systems.

When first vessel is completed and delivered in next six months, it will be among the largest vessels in the Indian Coast Guard fleet. The second and third units are to be completed and delivered at six monthly intervals.
