AC drive series launched

Vacon has launched a series of modular AC drives for marine applications. The new Vacon NX series of frequency converters includes both air and liquid cooled units within the power range of 0.2kW to 3MW. In developing the series for the marine market, the Finnish company says it took care to address issues of vibration control and the mounting of parts as well as involving DNV in the approval process. The bigger units, such as those for propulsion, are liquid-cooled. Applications include frequency conversion for driving main propulsion, steering, winches, pumps and fans. Vacon has OEM partners in the marine industry which include Rolls-Royce and Scandinavian Electric Systems. A prototype 2.3 MW NX propulsion drive has recently been installed on the Finnish fairway maintenance vessel Seili.
