ADSB steps up shiprepair business

ADSB says that it currently handles about 300 repair and upgrade projects each year for vessels such as tugs, barges, landing craft, dredgers, work boats, crew boats, diving vessels, supply and safety vessels and AHTS vessels. Most of these jobs involve dry docking, although some are carried out afloat and offsite. As well as various naval and governmental contracts, other prominent clients include Boskalis, Van Oordz, Damen Marine Services, Al Seer Marine, Zakher Marine International, Khalid Faraj Shipping, NPCC, MARCAP and NMDC.

CEO Mohamed Salem Al Junaibi said: “We are keen on leveraging our vast expertise in MRO services with the increased focus on this domain. Our world-class shipbuilding and repair facility has given us a significant competitive edge in the regional market, as we are able to undertake new construction projects in steel, aluminium alloy or composite materials.”

A number of upgrades have recently been completed at the yard, including the extension of the quay wall by about 155m, and the completion of a new pontoon and an electrical substation. The company recently opened environmentally friendly workshops as part of its continuing thrust to adhere to green building practices and support the sustainable development strategy of the government. It adds that it has streamlined and improved the efficiency and productivity of all departments, and is soon to open a new administration building.
