AIP for ULCC windshield design
The newly developed windshield, developed by both MOL and SHI, reduces wind resistance on the hull body while the ship is running, and it is expected to reduce CO2 by 2 – 4%.
MOL developed and installed a bow windshield on a mid-sized containership, the MOL Marvel, in 2015, and, in 2017, tests confirmed a reduction in CO2 of 2% when running at 17 knots.
Following this success, MOL and SHI have begun a joint development project for the most optimal bow windshield design for ultra-large container ships.
Through its ‘ISHIN NEXT – MOL SMART SHIP PROJECT’ MOL is developing and introducing new technologies that aim to reduce vessels’ environmental impact and ensure safe operation and reliable transport services.
