AKER Lorient delivers FOR tanker

The AKER Lorient shipyard (previously Alstom Leroux Naval), in cooperation with Saint-Nazaire Marine, have finalised the installation of a FOR (fast oil recovery) passive safety system on a 310 DWT 40 metre long oil tanker. It is the first coastal product tanker to be installed with the FOR system developed by the French company JLMD.

The navigation area of the vessel is particularly sensitive since it will be used to deliver oil products to the French Brittany Islands. JLMD?s technical solution has been installed to enhance the preventive measures against the ecological and economical consequences of a tanker casualty. To be ahead of the existing safety regulation, the French coastal authorities have chosen a double-hull vessel (not mandatory for this tonnage) to minimize consequences of collision or grounding while the JLMD system allows for the quick removal of oil contained in the tanks of a sunken vessel, thus preventing any further extension of the oil spill.
