Aker to build more PSVs for “K” Line

Aker Yards has signed a contract with “K” Line Offshore AS to build four platform supply vessels of Aker Yards design. The total value of this contract is approximately NOK 1.4 billion ($258 million) and delivery of the four vessels is scheduled between fourth quarter of 2010 and third quarter of 2011.

The Japanese “K” Line is one of the world’s largest ship owners/operators, mainly focusing on container, car carriers, bulk, LNG and tankers. “K” Line will now enter into the offshore market and this order of four 5,100 dwt PSVs will, together with the order for two 5,000 dwt anchor handlers of Aker AH 12 design placed earlier this autumn, provide a solid platform for the company???s entrance in the offshore market.

All these newbuildings are designed according to Clean Design class, for good sea keeping performance, low fuel consumption and environmental friendly operations. With an overall length of 94.90 metres and a width of 20 metres, these vessels will have an 8,800 kW power plant and a service speed of 16 knots.

The hull for the vessels will be built at Aker Yards in Romania and outfitted at Aker Yards in Norway.
