Aker Yards is to build two large construction vessels for DOFCON ASA, a subsidiary of District Offshore (DOF) in Norway, at a cost of $188 million. Both vessels are options attached to the initial order for two similar vessels placed with Aker in March this year.

Aker Yards’ site at S?viknes in Norway will construct both newbuildings.

The first vessel is of Aker OSCV 06 L design, developed by Aker Yards, and will be delivered from the yard spring 2009. The 153 metre long vessel will have DP Class 3 and Ice Class and a maximum speed of 18.5 knots, which is of significant importance for global operations in order to minimize mobilization time.

The second vessel is scheduled for delivery spring 2008is also designed by Aker Yards. It will be 118 metres long, will be equipped with a 250 tonnes offshore crane and will have DP Class 3.

Aker Yards currently has 13 vessels on order for DOFCON, DOF and GEO, of which 10 are of Aker Yards design.
