Alnmaritec delivers wind farm vessel

Alnmaritec, the specialist aluminium boat builder based in Alnwick, Northumberland, UK, recently announced the successful launch of one of the largest boats it has built in recent years.

The ?Aaryan? has been built for the North East based company ?North Sea Logistics? and is a slightly larger version of the ?Wave Commander? class of vessels from Alnmaritec which, last year, was elected as one of the Significant Small Ships of 2007 by the Royal Institute of Naval Architects. She was launched at Blyth in Northumberland and, after successful sea trials, has begun operations on an offshore wind farm in the North Sea. She is the ninth in a line of craft that Alnmaritec has built over recent years for servicing offshore wind farms, a record which puts the company firmly at the forefront of this burgeoning industry.

?Aaryan? is an aluminium asymmetric catamaran 18m long and 6.2m wide with a displacement of around 22 tonnes. She is fitted with twin 715bhp electronically controlled Caterpillar C18 diesel engines driving conventional four bladed 800mm diameter propellers through Twin Disc MGX 5135 Quick Shift gearboxes. These give her a top speed of over 25 knots and she is also fitted with powerful twin electric bow thrusters which give her excellent manoeuvrability. She carries a complement of 2 crew and 12 passengers in comfort within the large deckhouse which houses a galley, WC, wet space and storage areas. She is fitted with an array of the latest electronic equipment including a satellite ?man-finder? tracking system, 3-D sea bed profiling as well as radar, AIS, GPS, Chart plotter and Satcom system.
