Alpha delivers first large bore engine

Following the enlargement of MAN B&W`s Alpha Diesel factory at Fredrikshaven, the first large bore two-stroke produced in the Danish plant has been delivered to the German yard of Jos Meyer. Norwegian operator Solvang specified the 7,980kW (10,860 bhp), 148 rev/min 6L50MC to give its 146m loa ice strengthened ethylene carriers a speed of 17 knots.

At 200t the engine created some transportation problems on its way to the harbour which were overcome with the aid of two coupled trailers running on 126 wheels. Once at the harbour the trucks, trailers and engines were loaded onto a barge for the short sea trip.

The engine for the second vessel will be delivered in the Autumn and will be followed by two 7S50MC-C engines for the US yard Avondale.
