Alstom wins Costa order
The Power Conversion Business of Alstom has just been awarded a multi-million dollar contract by the Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri to supply electric power and propulsion equipment for the next Costa Crociere (Carnival Group) cruise ship to be delivered in summer 2006.
This cruise vessel, the largest passenger carrying ship in the history of Italian shipping, will be built at the Sestri Ponente yard in Genoa. It will be used for year-round worldwide cruising and carry 3,800 passengers at a maximum speed of 23 knots.
Alstom will supply the two synchronous propulsion motors of 21MW each and the associated power synchroconverters. It will also provide the propulsion control system, including the remote control, harmonic filtering and 11kV distribution system.
