The software will help prevent sloshing onboard LNG carriers

This agreement comes as a significant number of new build LNG carriers are expected to enter the market in the coming years as the long distance transportation of LNG increases.

To respond to this demand, the companies will work together to develop the sloshing prevention software, which is an advanced module of Amarcon’s Octopus advisory suite. The companies say this will greatly boost the LNG tanker’s safe conditions and will optimise the operational availability of the ships.

Leon Adegeest, general manager, Amarcon, said: “We are looking forward to working with GTT in order to serve LNG carriers with a state of the art onboard sloshing advice system, which will help crews to choose the route, speed and course with least risk for sloshing, so time savings can be achieved and damage to the LNG membrane tanks can be prevented.”

He added: “We also see great potential and need for these kind of monitoring and advisory systems as a part of an asset management programme.”
