American ECA awareness workshop
With this in mind, The Pacific Merchant Shipping Association, the Chamber of Shipping British Columbia and SustainableShipping have come together to organise a workshop to create awareness on the issue.
From August, vessels operating within the North American ECA will be required to operate within the 1% sulphur limit and this will further be reduced to 0.10% from January 2015.
Mr TL Garrett, vice president of the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association, said on the SustainableShipping website: “The purpose of this conference is to share all available information on what is required and the variety of strategies for reducing emissions, from using different fuel blends to installing emission reducing devices.”
Topics covered at the event will also include talks by refinery, bunker, shipping and regulatory experts with the main focus now being on best practice.
The workshop called Preparing for the ECA is being held in Tacoma on 28 June 2012. More information is available from: www.sustainableshipping.com
