OstiaEdge now integrates shaft torque, weather and environmental data, fuel consumption, draught and displacement with its existing equipment performance analytics to provide greater transparency into the performance of an individual ship or a whole fleet.

The programme is claimed to offer greater insight into the true power production and propulsion efficiency of the total ship, the full set of analytics enabling better understanding of:

  • How much fuel is consumed;
  • How the engine is performing relative to history and other engines;
  • How engine performance translates into shaft torque and power;
  • How much displacement is being moved at what speed through the water;
  • How external forces like wind and current impact the vessel’s movement; and
  • How resistance due to hull and propeller condition impacts speed and efficiency

OstiaEdge can provide similar analytics for auxiliary equipment, such as how much fuel generators are consuming, how the generators are performing and how auxiliary the electricity-consuming equipment is performing.

This information is said to give operators and fleet managers the ability to make decisions to optimise fuel efficiency and better understand which configurations are less fuel efficient; allowing for resources to be focused on those underperforming assets.

By understanding the specific drivers of fuel consumption, managers can prioritise and focus resources on the highest impact areas. For example, hull and propeller maintenance can be compared against engine optimisation to see which will achieve more impact. At fleet level, it enables resource prioritisation across the fleet, encouraging the highest possible return on investment.
