Another Aida for Meyer Werft

The German cruise operator AIDA Cruises, headquartered in Rostock, has awarded the building contract for another 68,500 GT club cruise ship to Meyer Werft in Papenburg. Delivery of the newbuilding is scheduled for Spring 2008 and will be the third ship in the Sphinx class. The first will be delivered in April 2007 and the second, surprisingly, in April 2009.

With an overall length of 249 metres and a breadth of 32.2 metres, the vessel will have 1,015 cabins with a total capacity of 2,030 passengers. The ships will feature a wealth of technical innovations and interior design highlights while the well-known brand design regarding the outer appearance of the ships will remain the same.

Power output of 36,000 kW will be generated by four diesel engines enabling the ship to achieve a service speed of over 21 knots.
