Another Kvaerner yard wins orders

Struggling German shipyard Kvaerner Warnow Werft has been awarded an order for a pair of 2,524 TEU container ships based on its CV2500 design.

Due to be delivered in the first half of 2001, the newbuildings are the first ships ordered at Kvaerner Warnow Werft for more than 12 months.

Still part of the Kvaerner group, Kvaerner Warnow Werft has only a pair of 5,000 TEU container ships for P&O Nedlloyd and a CS30 semi-submersible on order other than the latest contract.

The newbuildings have been ordered by German shipowners Gerd Ritscher and Dietrich Tamke, who have also ordered newbuildings from the Kvaerner yard in the past.

Kvaerner says that it hopes the contracts will contribute to maintaining shipbuilding activities at the yard while the search for new owners continues.
