Another shipyard for Simplex-Turbulo

This newest agency joins two other dry docks which the company represents: Jurong in Singapore and Astander in Northern Spain. It comes at a challenging time for the ship repair industry – with increasing regulation, environmental pressures and commercial competition, ship owners and managers are seeking more cost-effective yards.

Fujian Huadong shipyard is located on the northern side of Fujian Luoyuan Bay, which Simplex-Turbulo says could make it the best sheltered deep-water port in China. It’s centrally positioned on the eastern seaboard of China and is also well-placed for many of the most popular Asian sea routes.

Its climate is also of benefit, since it does not suffer from the extreme cold, or the tropical heat, which often result in delays to work progress.

Built in 2011, it features the latest technology and uses modern working practices and methods to carry out repair work on a wide range of vessels, including container ships, tankers, bulk carriers and specialist vessels such as bunkering stations.

The yard has three large docks, ranging from 245m in length to 375m, and a pier of around 1,300m with six berths. A second phase of construction is now in progress which will result in an additional 240m by 120m dock dedicated to specific engineering projects. Simplex-Turbulo says this will make it one of the largest and most attractive repair yards along the Chinese coast.

Over the years, the yard has built an international customer base with fleets from Hong Kong, South Korea, China, Singapore, Germany and Greece.
