Another SWATH delivered
The pilot tender “Wangeroog” (port of registry: Bremerhaven) was delivered on the 21 October to the “Wasser- und Schifffahrtsverwaltung des Bundes”. This newbuilding is the 5th SWATH vessel to be delivered by German shipbuilder Abeking & Rasmussen and took two years to complete. Two more SWATH vessels are under construction at the yard and will be completed by end of this year.
Abeking & Rasmussen is the first yard in Europe to establish the serial design of SWATH and is currently negotiating for further repeat orders at present. Since 1999, the pilot tenders “Döse” and “Duhnen” have been performing well in the German Bight and, this positive experience, has resulted in further orders for SWATH vessels. The SWATH design is claimed to have superior manoeuvring and seakeeping capabilities in rough seas and guarantees very high safety standard and increased readiness for operation.
