Any advance on 22,000 TEUs?

STX Shipbuilding in South Korea reports that it has succeeded in developing a 22,000 TEU containership making it the worlds largest of its type. The containership is 460m in length, 60m in width and 30m in height. To date, according to STX, the world?s largest containership currently in service is the 13,500 TEU ?E class? built by Maersk Line in Denmark, while Germany developed the design for a 20,000 TEU containership last year.

STX said that, as the company has surpassed the level of 20,000 TEU which had been considered as the production limit both technologically and financially, the recently-developed boxship has proved the superiority of Korean shipbuilding technology that currently dominates the global shipbuilding market.

STX official said, “Along with the acquisition of the global cruise shipbuilding company Aker Yard and the development of the world?s largest-scale containership will lay a foundation for us to become the world?s leading shipbuilder.”
