APC unveils new coatings

APC has reduced the VOC level of MarineLine 784 to just 30 grams per litre, which it says is the lowest level of any other cargo tank coating. The first method uses plural component equipment to separately hold the coating components (resin and catalyst) until spraying occurs. APC says this reduces waste and eliminates the need for added solvent. The other method, airless spraying, can be used after adding in a recommended amount of non-VOC solvent to the coating prior to application.

A key performance of the new coating is its ability to resist Methanol up to 50 degrees Celsius – a growing need for shipowners and operators. This is possible thanks to the coating’s ‘ladder-like’ structure. It’s also said to be the only proven high performance cargo tank lining that withstands all IMO-approved chemical cargos.

Another new product in the APC range is GuardLine cargo tank coating. This “breakthrough”, “low temperature cure” coating is designed to carry less severe cargo such as CPP, bio-fuels, vegetable and edible oils and DPP.

APC says its new GuardLine coating offers greater visibility and chemical resistance than any Phenolic Epoxy or zinc coating on the market today.

More than 600 vessels are using the MarineLine coating and now, the company is working with a number of shipowners and shipyards on new contracts for 2015 and beyond.
