Receivers have ben appointed to the last commercial shipbuilder in England, threatening up to 1,000 jobs. Workers at the Appledore shipyard, North Devon are protesting at impending redundancies. Many are still hopeful that a buyer will be found for the UK?s oldest yard. Receivers from the accounting firm Tenon Recovery said they will try to sell the it as a going concern, and the GMB union knows of at least three different parties interested in buying it. The union is trying to find ways to help the younger workers complete their apprenticeships with some only a few days away from completion.
